Does anyone know if Royal Jordanian really limits you to 5 kilos for a carry-on bag? We had hoped to only take a carry-on for our trip to Amman, but 5 kilos just won't be enough. I will also have a camera bag with my 5D Mark 2 and lenses.

I don't know, but you should be able to either go to their website and carefully look at all the fine print, or call them up. Other airlines we have traveled recently do have these details posted for their airlines.

Thanks, tinydancer. I had already checked their website and it says 5 kilos. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with them and did they really hold to this low weight as some of the airlines we have used in Africa did not.

I saw people carrying on typically sized (i.e. not small) bags on my flight from LHR-AMM last year. It didn't seem different from any other international carrier.

If you're flying their business/Crown Class, I wouldn't worry at all. But I have heard them being picky about carry-on weight in AMM. Though that's purely third hand anecdotes.

When are you flying? I've got a few RJ flights in the middle of May and can take some notes.

When we flew RJ, my carry-on though small, did weigh more than 5Kg and no one stopped or even weighed or ask to put these in the sizers. This though was before 9/11 when airlines weren't as anal.

Reminds me when I flew Emirates (via Dubai) to Nairobi, when I picked up my ticket, asked about cabin luggage weight and advised 15/lbs. Well, that sounded fine, but once at the airport, I seemed to be the only pax who was within limits. Boarding took oh so long, as everyone else had larger bags that weighed way more, taking up the overheads... amazing. The flight attendants weren't happy campers. But no one seemed to question or have paxs check those oversized and overweight bags.

Call RJ direct and see what info they can provide for an "actual" 20"-22" rollaboard (or duffle) you maybe considering. Don't be surprised if you get different answers different reps.

Thanks, Femi, that's encouraging. And thanks bigbrownboy--we're just flying economy class--and we're flying in mid-April, so that's before you. Thanks, also Sandi. I'm almost getting enough courage to just assume we can take things on board. We plan to use two squishable duffle bags and then I'd have by camera bag on my back, which I believe is considered separately.
