I stayed at the River Club last December and it was a fantastic experience. Peter Jones is a wonderful host, the food is great, the whole experience is very worthwhile and I loved it. In June, My sister took her family to the River Club, where Peter Jones arranged a wonderful ceremony for them to scatter their father's ashes. it was his dying request to be buried in Africa, and Peter made it all happen in a very caring way. I cannot recommend this place too highly. Feel free to email me for more information.

My opinion of the River Club is different from Sandra's. I agree that the property is beautiful and the hosts were delightful. Our lovely accommodation did not have a screen on the huge area overlooking the river, therefore, we kept our lights out after dark and used a flashlight to get around. Although the bed area had netting, the bugs just loved the white bathroom fixtures... gross. The person who showed us to the unit said that the rollup screen was only used during storms and did not encourage us to use it. Later, we found out it might have been helpful. My other complaint was that the dinner as there was no choice and the chicken and plain white rice was really boring.

We stayed at the River Club in October. It is a beautiful property and the hosts are excellent (we just received a nice Christmas card from them). I do agree that the bugs, mainly the little lizards were annoying at times - but that was part of the experience... we stayed there in the middle of our 3 week trip, so by then we were used to creepy crawly things. The views of the river were fabulous and I wouldn't sacrifice the openness for a few bugs.
The only drawback(or positive side)of the River Club was in its seclusion. For us, we only had 2 days and wanted to see the falls, bungi jump, and white water raft the Zambezi. They were very accomodating and helped us to do all 3 in the short amount of time, however, the location was a drawback for this -- 40 minute drives each way to our activities. On the other hand, if I do go back to VF some day and I'm looking for a quiet, romantic, place to stay - away from the everyday crowds, I would definitely go back to the River Club.

If you want to see pictures, etc. feel free to email me.

Kathi

Kathi,
I would love to see your photos! We will be there in mid February. Their website is not the best, so photos would be wonderful. I have already heard about the bug situation - long sleeves, lights out, and deet. Right?
Thanks again for your help.

Sara
