Reaching Abu Simbel
We are planning to stay in Abu Simbel overnight, and I am having a difficult time planning this. If someone who has done this before can offer advice, that would be welcome.
From Cairo, the only direct flight seems to be the one early in the morning. I could not find any flights that reach later in the day.
One option I am considering is taking the night train from Cairo to Aswan, and then fly on the 11:30am flight to Abu Simbel. Any other options people can offer.
since we have a cruise the following day, we plan to take the first or second flight (around 8:30am) back to Aswan. Should I be worried about not making it to my cruise on time, which boards around noon?

As far as I know the flights from Cairo are the early morning ones.
If you leave Abu Simble at 8:30 AM for Aswan you will be okay.

As Percy mentions, the flights go out in the morning with return flights late morning to Aswan or Lusor.
While the boats start boarding at 12N, "most" remain in Aswan for afternoon (sightseeing, felucca cruise, museum or souk visits) and overnight. So even if you take the late morning flight from Abu Simbel (the one most visitors who arrive early fly out on), you should be able to board your boat anytime during the afternoon.
But, it's important you verify the actual schedule for your particular boat, if for some reason they commence the cruise toward Kom Ombo that afternoon.

Thanks, Percy, Sandi.
We are trying to avoid getting up at 3am to go to Abu simbel.
But our current plan gets us into Abu simbel by 1pm, and get us out the next morning around 9am. Not sure if that is too much time at that place, or what remains open in the afternoon. The advantage we see is that we can do the night light show.
