Trip Report Quick June trip report with photos - Mara Porini and Lion Porini

We were supposed to do a family trip this summer but my husband and youngest son teamed up with some of their friends to do a guy's trip so youngest daughter and I teamed up to do a girl's trip.

We were deciding between Greece, Italy and Kenya. Kenya won. We used The Wild Source (Bill Given) to put the trip together and I initially wanted to stay at Governor's Camp because I've been there 3 times (Feb, Aug & Sep) and it's tried and true. Bill gave me some options and I decided to try out the Porini camps.

We landed late at night and were picked up by Gamewatchers (Gamewatchers and Porini camps are owned by same people) and taken to Fairview. I knew we would be tired the next morning so we planned to sleep late, eat lunch at the hotel and then be picked up for a visit to the Giraffe center, the craft/gift shop in that area and Sheldrick Orphanage and then back to the hotel for dinner and early to bed. It worked perfectly for us and we had time to buy my older daughter's sandals at the Fairview gift shop ( she always requests/demands that I buy her the beaded sandals in Kenya :D ) and all the other little gifts at the craft place. I really like that hotel.

We left the next morning for Wilson airport and flew to the Mara. My daughter (17 and just graduated high school) has been to MalaMala (twice) and Mashatu but never to Kenya so Wilson was new to her. It is an experience if you've never flown out of a small airport before. We boarded one of the smaller planes and headed to Mara Porini.

It's late now so I'll write some more tomorrow.
