Proposed Itinerary Israel & Jordan
My sister and I (female) and my newly 5 year old son are going to visit one of my college roommates in Jordan in May. My former roommate is there for 6 months only so we are going now!
I've been playing with flights and now with the electronics ban have decided that we will fly into and out of Tel Aviv. prices are also better. I've laid it out so we will make one big circle. it's lots of one day overnights rather than day trips. We are pretty independent travelers, and having a 5 year old precludes full day tours. So I'm trying to emphasize action. Hikes, boat rides, the beach. We will though get a tour guide for at least one day in Jerusalem. My sister is especially excited about a camel ride at Wadi Rum. I'm planning an hour at the max and the rest in a jeep.
Here's our tentative itinerary.
Day 1 Leave DFW 4:15 p.m. Arrive FRA 9:10 a.m. (Frankfurt) 9h 55m
Day 2 Leave FRA 11:00 a.m. Arrive TLV 4:05 p.m. (Tel Aviv) 4h 05 m
Day 3 Tel Aviv
Day 4 Haifa
Day 5 Haifa to Tiberius via Nazareth spend night on Sea of Galilee
Day 6 Tiberius to Amman, Jordan via Northern Bridge Crossing stopping in Jerash on way to Amman
Friday May 19th Amman
Day 7 leave Amman stop by Madaba and Dead Sea end night at Petra
Day 8 22nd Petra all day
Day 9 22nd Wadi Rum
Day 10 23rd Aqaba
Day 11 cross bridge late in afternoon to Israel drive to Masada
Day 12 Hike Masada before dawn then drive to Jerusalem
Day 13 Jerusalem
Day 14 Jerusalem
Day 15 leave jerusalem 6 a.m. flight so leaving hotel in the middle of the night.
Where should we spend more time? Where should we spend less? What am I overlooking?
We like arts and some history. definitely a bit of shopping for unique items and handicrafts. We like easy to moderate hikes. My son loves the beach. And this way we will see the Mediterranean, the Sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea and the Red Sea.
I figure we will hire a car and driver. Each day different driver? Keep the same driver for the two days in Northern Israel? I think I will have to take some type of car seat with me.
Any other suggestions? Thanks!i

What is the date of "Day 1" ?? It is important to know because of possible problems due to holidays and Sabbath.
You cannot take an Israeli rental car into Jordan and vice versa.
You do not have to hire a driver in Israel - there is no problem driving yourself. You can rent a car in Tel-Aviv and drop it off in Tiberias (no drop-off charge), then take a taxi to the border crossing in Bet Shean.
Regarding your itinerary in Jordan: consult with your friend and post questions on the Jordan forum. You don't need a full day in Aqaba, unless you are interested in diving.
