Post-Trip (Tanzania) Flora and Bird ID help needed for photos

Hi, I like to have accurate labels for my photos and I have nothing to put for two. I have done quite a bit of searching for a week and a half both online and at my local library and come up empty handed for identifying these two photos from my trip to Tanzania. I thought I would post about them and see if someone knows the answer of the top of his/her head. Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

1. Birds in Bougainvillea, Arusha - There was a huge group of these brown birds at Serena Mt. Village with tufted heads and gray "beards." I wish I had asked our guide later what they were!

2. "Pavlonia" - A little pink flower growing on the rim of Ngorongoro crater. It looks just like a miniature hibiscus but the guide called it something that sounded like "pavlonia" but, alas, no search produces such a flower. Any ideas?

(There are two photos of an insect posted with these two -- I assume it's a katydid but if anyone has a correction, I would appreciate it).

Hi Schlegal,

I’m no birder, but I’m almost sure the birds are speckled mousebirds.

It looks like you are right Nyamera. I will so label them in the album. I really, really appreciate the help--it drives me crazy to have unlabeled photos!

Anyone have thoughts on the "pavlonia?"

Schlegal, I did a bit of searching and found this picture of a “pavlonia”:

It’s not the same plant as your “pavlonia”, but similar enough to assume it’s the word it’s known by at the rim of Ngorongoro crater.

It is similar! I am so glad because I thought I was going crazy--I asked the guide twice what the flower's name was and heard "pavlonia" quite distinctly. I am so pleased to have something to confirm it. I don't know how you found that Nyamera -- you are a better websleuther than I. Thanks!
