Pop goes the budget!
Hello,
As if my Botswana 2006 trip wasn't expensive enough, I've booked a private vehicle for 2 days at Mombo. My bank account is lucky that all five days weren't available...though I am on the waitlist!
I don't know about anyone else, but I sometimes find it hard to stick to a budget for my safaris -- when you're travelling so far and putting so much money in, a bit more seems rather inconsequential...but those little bits do add up!
I suspect Leely can identify with this as well, given what I have read about her coming trip to East Africa...
Cheers,
Julian

Definitely identify - we blew our budget just on the 3 week trip in Bots/ Namibia - we shouldn't really have included Mombo at all let alone for 4 nights but we really wanted to return and we're glad we did.
We couldn't stretch to private vehicle but I would love to do so.
We then blew it further by bolting 5 weeks in South Africa on the front of the trip - self drive, budget accommodation and DIY safari but STILL a few thousand that we hadn't originally intended to spend!
Again, worth it though!

I want Bwana's budget. I don't even need the beer.
I have realized, however, getting all angst-y about a poster's visa problem, that I am saving money on my next trip: only one country=only one visa=less money spent on visas.
Whew, what a relief.

Leely that observation is just...brilliant! ;-)
As I look into my airfare for next year, and add on JSB to Lusaka, I realize that this trip is going to be pricey no matter what, and like Julian said, after you get to a certain point it's like why not just go for it? So, I'm asking myself, why not just go for Botswana? I want to cry now....;-) (OK - I'm not really going to cry. And I'm not changing my plans. I'm really quite excited about Zambia.)

Sometimes I think credit cards are the work of the Devil...the one who sits on your shoulder, tempting you to do things you shouldn't, like spend a fortune on a trip to Botswana

Julian, you're off to a good start with "it's only two days, not five," but let the Queen of Rationalization help you out here:
"It will only be more expensive next year."
"I've come all this way, and spent all this money already, so I may as well do this right."
"I worked hard all year; I deserve it."
"It's just this once."
"It's really pretty selfless of me not to impose my wishes on the other guests."
