Ordering Doxycycline online for malaria prevention

We took this stuff on our trip to Kruger 3 years ago and we were pretty happy with it, the side effects were minimal. For our next trip this October I'd like to order it online rather than hassling with a doctor visit.

I've never ordered a prescription online before, I found some website like CanadianPhamacy.com that sells this, and obviously I will check out some others before actually purchasing.

Anyone had good/bad experience with doing this? I don't want to pay for a bunch of sugar pills.

That is my primary concern with ordering online and why I would not do it, like you say, - sugar pills. I know your Dr's prescription may cost 5 times the cost of the pills, but, oh well.

Is generic malarone available yet? I thought the pharmacist told me generics should soon be for sale when I bought malarone in September 2011.

Generic Malarone was supposed to be available 3rd quarter of 2011, though it might have been hard to get at the launch. I would think it would be available now.

Does your doc really need to see you again? If (s)he once prescribed it for prophylaxis and you tolerated it well, you'd think (s)he could just call it in for you.

My family MD Calls in my scrip
for generic Doxy 100mg #270 personally pay $12
all in at WalMart. Best safest way to do it.

There are reputable online sites that cost a bit
more I have used in the past. Dr Fox in the UK
and Bootsthai.com 4nx.com Singapore freedom-pharmacy.com
in Vanuatu but shipping costs and time make US telephone consult or US doctors visit if required a way better option for most.

Good luck!

Even though $15 for 90 pills is not expensive, what does your Dr. charge you for your visit and to write prescription?

regards - tom
ps - I would prefer doxy anyway for its general antibiotic properties http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxycycline

Tom, I think there is a good chance of some preventive properties in the stuff. On a Kruger Wilderness trail, we drank from a pipe that came from a bore hole, and ate some really odd lamb stew with bones in it, and didn't get the least bit sick. The whole trip, our insides felt great, even with eating the somewhat yucky food at the Kruger restcamps.

I may call my doc and see if they could call in the prescription, I just hate hassling going to the doctor's office if I don't have to.

Could be gigib. Which reminds me also take with you some Imodium or such just in case. And any other medications in carry-on with you, and copy of your passport and med insurance cards and .... list goes on!!!

If the web site you mention does not require a legitimate prescription I would absolutely NOT buy anything from them. It's probably black market drug and who knows what's in it. Canadian pharmacies can offer significant drug savings to US citizens, but the good pharmacies require a legitimate prescription and it can sometimes be time consuming to make the transaction.

Doxycycline is a pretty inexpensive drug. I agree with others that a phone call to your doctor's office will likely get you a prescription without a visit if you've seen your doctor for anything else in the last year.

My dr wrote a prescription without a visit. I spoke to his office on the phone and told them where I was traveling. Prescription was written for no cost.
