Opinions on trip itinerary Iran

Hi,

After years of thinking about it I will be going to Iran next week for a two week holiday. I will arrive in Tehran on saturday afternoon on the 19th of December and leave Tehran on the 3rd of January at 3 AM.

I was wondering if you have any advice on the following itinerary. I have searched the forum but would just like to hear any advice or tips you could give.

19-21: Tehran.
21-22: Kashan.
22-24: Yazd.
24-25: Fahraj.
25-27: Shiraz.
28-1: Ishafan.
1-2: Tehran

As far as I can see this packs most of the classic places to visit in Iran. Tehran might seem a bit much but when I arrive I only have sunday 21 december as a full day. I would like to see Golestan Palace, but it's not open on Sunday, so I would visit that on saturday the 2nd of January.

My main interests are Persepolis and Ishafan, though I would also spend a night in the desert or a village/oasis next to it. Do you think Fahraj is a good choice for this?

Any advice or alterations you could give would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry, can't help with the itinerary. Wondered if you'd care to share how you got your visa, though. Am considering a trip in 2016 or 2017 and the visa seems to be a big pain, at least for a UK or US passport.

Sure no probs. I have a Dutch passport and it was actually very easy.

I printed out or brought with me the following:

- Flight ticket
- A picture
- Copy passport
- Copy health insurance card
- A filled in request form.

I went to consulate at the Hague, actualy forgot to book a hotel, so I googled for one in the train and wrote the name of it on the request form.

Got in, turned everything in, payed 50 euros, plus ten euros to get it sent to my home adress.

It went very fast. Was in the Hague on monday, got the passport with visa by post on thursday.

Don't know how it works for a UK or US passport, but for me it was one of the fastest experiences getting a visa.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it sounds much more laborious - and expensive - for a UK or US passport.

Hmmm. Oh for another passport. I guess they just don't want us there Thursday.

Hi BartJ

Im hoping to go to Iran in two months' time. Would appreciate your input on how things were/are! By thr sounds of it you are not going on a tour and have organised everything yourself. Is it easy to travel and book transport tickets?

Thanks

Hello again Bart,

If you could give us an update on costs that would be great as well! I'm mainly relying on Lonely Planet but I wonder if prices have gone up since Iran is becoming more popular.

Thanks!
