We are planning a trip to Africa in Sept 2013 and would like to see South Africa, Victoria Falls and also Tanzania and the Serengenti. Looking at the map it looks daunting. Any thoughts on this? We have allocated 24 travel days. Thanks.

It would be daunting if you drove. In 24 days, if you fly between Southern Africa and Tanzania, it will work fine.
You'll waste about a day in transport. No big deal when you have 24.
In addition to the Serengeti, consider Southern Tanzania in Sept: Mahale for chimps, Katavi, Ruaha.
In fact there is a flying safari that starts in the northern Serengeti of Tanz (where you want to be in Sept) then flies to Mahale for chimps, then Katavi, and Ruaha. I did that (though I did not include Ruaha) last Sept. I used Flycatchers.
