One day in Petra?
I will be in Jerusalem for a week and the would like to see Petra. Is it possible to take a day tour from Jerusalem or should I invest in spending more time? I also have read that many people go from Eilat. Is there any difference to go from there or Jerusalem?

Believe it's easier from Eilat, when after crossing into Jordan (easier border crossing), the drive is about 1-1.5/hrs to Petra and you can return later that day. However, still a bit short for this fascinating place.
Going from Jerusalem, not only costly, but can take quite awhile to cross the border and then it's about 2-3/hrs south to Petra. And, if only for 1/day you won't be spending much time at the site, to return to JER very late at night.
So, as you're NOT in Jordan as your start point, I wouldn't do this visit without spending 1/nt at Petra. It won't be so rushed and feel you missed something.

I had two full days at Petra and could have used more, so I do think a rushed day trip would be seriously short-changing the place. Of course, if that's all you can manage, I suppose it's better than nothing, but Jordan is worth a longer visit.

I was there in Petra and 2 days is needed. It is a very beautiful site and should be explored. We stayed at the Movenpick and it is right next to Petra so it is very easy to eeturn to the hotel if it is hot. we visited from Eilat and the crossing was very easy and quick. The only thing I would suggst is making arrangements to be picked up in Jordan after crossing. It is about an 1 1/2 hr trip to Petra and there is not other public transportation available, at least 3 yrs ago.

1 full day is good if your interest is ONLY Petra.
You should go! Completely worth it!
Day 1: Travel to Petra in the morning and check in to hotel.
Movenpick is the best. Relax and go to bed early.
Day 2: Visit Petra after early breakfast.
Depart for Israel after a late lunch.

Hi! Depends when they arrive and leave.
If they leave early the first day they can do to Petra By Night.
The later they leave the more time in Petra.
A good long day is sufficient.
I've never done Petra by Night by choice and I don't feel I have missed out. Then again, I'd rather hit the hammam before
dinner time. ;')
