Oman - moderate priced hotel near souks

We will be in Muscat in late November. Looking for a modest priced hotel that is clean and well-positioned near the souks and the Corniche. I have heard a few things about Naseem Hotel that sound okay. Does anyone know it or can recommend someplace nearby? Walkable to the old city area. I am aware there is a budget Oman hotels post earlier, but there is not a lot there. Does anyone do B&B style accom in that area?

Also, we want to take a 3 day tour in the northern half of the country to see ancient forts and more history. Any suggestions for a guide or a small tour group?
