Hi,
I'm planning to visit Oman in November this year. Do you know what are the possibilities of cheap accomodation in Oman? Any chances for tent camping or youth hostels? We haven't choose the places we want to see so far, but we will have about 2 weeks for Oman.
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Wow, that's a hard one. One thing Oman isn't is cheap! Here's a website that does list the basics - http://www.omanet.om/english/useful/hotel.asp
One reviewer noted that in Oman, you either pay $25 a night, or $250. One of the only hotels I know that is in the former category is the An-Naseem, on the waterfront in Muttrah. I've had several friends stay there with no complaints. You'd be right next to the old souk. But be prepared for the expensive taxi ride from the airport to the hotel (bargain like crazy) and the long distances between sites in the capital area.
Yes, there is camping (see website.) Certainly folks do enjoy camping along the vast stretches of beautful, empty beaches, but don't expect ANY amenities (such as close-by convenience stores) and all camping would need a four-wheel drive (also not cheap)to access. Careful of maps, they are not completely accurate.
BUT, the people will be very friendly and helpful, and the sight-seeing amazing. It's one of the few "genuine" places left in the world. And it has the additional advantage of being completely safe and clean. I lived there over five years and never lost a thing or got a "tummy bug."

Thanks so much for a great advice! We are going to rent a 4-wheel drive in Dubai, so fortunatelly we will not need to take a taxi, and it will be possible to get to camping area. And to tell the truth I really enjoy such camping, so I hope it will be amazing!
One more time- thanks for advice, that helped me a lot!
Regards,
Pati
