Okavango and Kalahari in December

Hi! In a previous thread that I posted, I was hoping to do a last-minute trip to Botswana in March. That didn't work out and the trip has been pushed to late this year. I was hoping for November but it seems like it may be December. What's your opinion on Okavango and Kalahari in December in terms of wildlife? Would the rains be a big factor? We live in Singapore so the heat is not a problem. Thanks in advance for your help!!

The first green season trip I did to Botswana was early December 2011- I did Duma Tau, Tubu Tree and Kwara. I saw a lot, with wild dogs every day in Duma Tau, multiple leopard sightings in Tubu Tree and a variety of sightings at Kwara (including cheetah). At the time I thought I was fairly lucky with the rain, in retrospect it rained more than it has on subsquent green season trips. But it didn't bother me and I think the savings were well worth it.

I wrote a trip report here-
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTop...-Botswana.html

The bit about the weather, I said "I should say something about the weather, as it's a big question for those planning a trip in the "green season". November had been unusually dry, so I was hoping the rain would hold off for me but I wasn't quite that lucky. There wasn't really any rain when I was at Duma Tau, just once overnight, and at Tubu Tree we had one morning drive cut short, but it really set in when I was at Kwara. Nonetheless, only one morning drive was a complete write off, and the afternoon boat trip I did was a bit miserable on the way out but cleared up on the way back. The rest of the heavy rain managed to fall outside activity time. So the rain didn't have too bad an effect, no more that I could reasonably expect, it being the rainy season! However, it was overcast quite a lot which isn't the best for photography."

But subsequent trips I have had have actually been much better- Jan/Feb 2013 I think it rained only twice in 15 days, and it was hardly overcast at all. Nov (last week) 2015- the tiniest spots of rain on one occasion in 8 days, and mostly sunny and bright.

Everyone who goes in green season, even those who have also gone in winter, rave about it. Do not hesitate - you'll love it. Get the specials when they are available.

Hi Stokeygirl and christabir - Thanks for the insight! I am waiting for confirmation on camp availability. Basically the same as what I had hoped for March - 4 nights at Kwara and 2 nights at Tau Pan. I decided not to pursue the Wilderness special because I did price it out for this March back in mid-2015 and it was more than the special I'm getting now for the Kwando combination. I hope this itinerary can be confirmed soon so I can secure flights to Maun.
