I recently returned from a trip to the Western Balkans, including Bosnia and Hercegovina (Sarajevo and Mostar); Croatia (Dubrovnik); Montenegro (Kotor and Sveti Stefan); Albania (Tirana and Durresi); and Macedonia (Ohrid). I know some of you have interests beyond Africa, but you may not frequent the Europe forum, where I have likewise posted this link. The photos were my first with a digital camera (Nikon D50).

Beautiful photos. Can we expect a report?
How many/long were the flights?
great pictures Michael! You sure travel to some interesting locations. Thanks for posting here.

Hi Michael,
I enjoyed your photos. I was planning to visit these same countries in 2005 but got "side tracked" to Africa instead. Don't see myself going anywhere but back to Africa at this point in time, but am interested in tracing my grandfather's Macedonian heritage one day. I would be interested in hearing about the highlights, will check out the Europe board.
Leely, I do not intend to prepare a trip report (even on the Europe forum, there is no interest in these destinations, except for the over-visited and very crowded Dubrovnik, which was only interesting early morning and late evening before and after the cruise ship passengers attacked the small old city).
Also, I didn't take any internal flights between the Balkans, relying on buses, one train (from Sarajevo to Mostar, and one of the most beautiful train trips I've taken) and a few short distance taxis. I prefer to avoid internal flights, if possible, because I prefer to see the countries, instead of jetting from destination to destination.
Carla, I would include the several UNESCO World Heritage Sites among the highlights: Mostar (old city and bridge); Dubrovnik (at least early morning and late at night); Kotor and its bay; and Lake Ohrid. I also found Albania fascinating, and I traveled extensively by shared van, and it was very, very easy.

Thanks Michael - I really enjoyed them! That astrological clock was really beautiful. Did you go into "Club Bill Gates"? And last question - what's the story witht he license plates - is it a collection?
Cyn
Cyn, the astronomical clock is on the old town square in Prague; while beautiful, I don't think it keeps accurate time (I'm not even sure its meant to keep the time).
I usually photograph the flag and license plate from each new country or state -- just a way to identify the location of the photos that follow the flag and plate. I have also started photographing the UNESCO signs.
Michael - I'd love to see more titles on these so I know what I'm looking at! This is an area of Europe I'd love to see someday. Thanks for posting.
