Morocco trip suggestions please

Jump to last reply

Hi, my daughter (57 and 21) and I have a trip planned to Morocco for Oct. and I have specific riads in mind. I've contacted a few agents for help and pricing. I've come up with this itinerary: Fly from ATL to Casa arriving at 9:30 am and with a guide/driver going directly to Chef for 2 nights. On to Fes for 3/4 nights. Fly from Fes to Zagora via Casa leaving at 6:00 am. Driver from Zagora to a desert camp in Erg Chigaga for 2 nights. Driver to Ait Ben for 1 night then on to Marrakech for 4 nights.

I don't want to do the driving, my interest is photography (I know the issues with this) so we'll use drivers and/or guides for help. At least one TA wasn't interested after I mentioned the flight and I'm guessing my desire to stay in the raids that I picked....I'm sure they work with specific hotels.

Has anyone done this flight from Fes to Zagora and is there any reason to not consider it, we're trying to limit the time in a car, we both get carsick?

If I plan each portion of the trip myself would I hire a driver from Casa to Chef, keep the driver there to take us to Fes then get the riad for guides in Fes and to drive us back to the airport? Then make a plan for the next portion of the trip? Any suggestions for companies for transportation/drivers if the TA's don't come through with something reasonable for the entire trip? Thoughts, suggestions? Much appreciated.

Hi pcnw! I would suggest the following:
    1) Chefchaoen is a great pretty place, lovely for photography. Good choice.
    2) Fes is great too. I personally think 2 max 3 days is enough ( for me 2 days was enough) with the third day you can take a day trip to Meknes.
    3) instead of flying down to Zagora to the erg chigaga why not take a tour of 3 to 4 days which will drive you through from fes all the way to Marrakech. Along the way you will pass through various landscapes from fes down to the nicest and largest dunes of erg chebbi in Merzouga. Here you will be able to take amazing pictures. Spend the night in the desert if you want and then continue on to visit Todra gorge, Dades gorge, Quarzazate, aIt Ben haddou and see many picturesque villages and even get a feel of the berber culture. This tour will eventually end in marrakech which is so great for photography. From there proceed for a day tour to Eassaouira a pretty blue fishing village if you have time.

As regards to travel time, if you take a four day tour it will be more relaxed and you will not feel much car sickness as the roads are not with traffic. Mainly long straight roads and you can stop when and were you want.

I have done this trip myself with a company Adrar travel who actually offers a photography tour with this itinerary. It was great.

If you need any more suggestions feel free :)
