Morocco--I am wondering what the level of comfort is in tents in Morocco
Hi there, I hate for this to sound cushy, but I am wondering what the comfort level is like in the tents when down in the desert. Are there any portable shower facilities, or buckets to wash with. Does anyone know if there are cots in the tents or sleeping bags? I have a bad back so this is important information. I would really appreciate some feedback,

Hi Bushwoman - I visited Morocco last fall with a very reputable tour company and part of the tour included three days in the desert on camels. The camping is very basic - two man tents that really only hold one person unless you leave your luggage outside. We had to bring our own sleeping bags and mats. They provided a shower tent, but it consisted of buckets of water to wash with that were only adequate at best. The toilet tent had the standard portable potty. The food was wonderful and the camels were fun to ride, although not as comfortable as horses. I too have a bad back, but I didn't have any problem. Remember that it is the desert and water is at a premium. The three days were an unforgettable experience, and I would not hesitate to do it again. You may want to check around for other companies that do overnight camping trips that are not as basic. I have seen them on-line so I know that they exist.

I think it really depends on which tour company you use. We used Blue Men of Morocco. We only spent one night in the desert, but they did provide mattresses, blankets and pillows for us, however, there were no bathroom facilities at all. All four of us slept in one tent with plenty of room. I have read of someone else who did a desert tour and they actually had beds in their tents and a tent with a porta-potty but not sure about shower facilities. I think you just have to ask what their desert facilities are like - obviously the more facilities the more expensive. But as bushwoman said it was an unforgettable and amazing experience!!

The tour operator is best to ask as to what kind and size of tent, sleeping bags or mattresses or beds, linens, bathroom and/or shower facilities. What you may have to bring, cost to upgrade from sleeping bags to mattresses, maybe? Some might be willing to forego shower/bath facilies for a 1/nt stay, but not for 3/nts. Will no doubt vary from company-to-company and the price.
