Morocco floods - areas affected

We plan to go to Morocco mid-Decmber and visit the Sahara region: Merzouga, Dades Valley, Skoura, Ait Benhadou. Do you know if these areas have been affected from the severe floodings these days? Should we cancel this part of the trip and stick to the Marrakesh - Fez areas? Thanks! Wish all the best to the people of Morocco!

This topic here on TA would be helpful with updates for your trip to Morocco and conditions of the roads : http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...h-Morocco.html

Sallam 'lekum spanos,

It's a very fluid (no pun intended) situation right now, as roads that are unnavigable today may well be open by mid-December. Your main concern is obviously the N9 from Marrakech to Ouarzazate via the Tizi n'Tichka. Keep checking on the input by Tim and others on the TA forum, and for now I would keep your plans as they are but perhaps have a plan B on standby. Good luck and you can be sure that the Moroccan people will be ready and willing to make sure your journey is still memorable.

I wouldn't worry so long as there's no heavy rainfall before your trip. You might notice dust from vehicles in front of you driving over thick dried mud on the roads, but the N9 was closed for proper repairs and is now fully reopen. The only main road I'm not sure about is Guelmim to Sidi Ifni on the Atlantic coast, but I expect some workaround has been organised by now.

Offering platitudes to visitors when they are requesting solid information is unhelpful.

I am sorry to say the advice offered by travelwithinmorocco is very far from the truth. Six major 'N' roads were cut and more than a dozen bridges down, one of which I had travelled over just a couple of weeks earlier.

(It looks like travelwithinmorocco has been removed from the forum)
