Morocco day trip from Spain

If you are willing to see the real morocco,head south to Fez,it's about 5 hours train from Tangier.Also you can stay in Chefchaouen which is about 2 hours driving from Tangier.

At this point, I might stay in Morocco for over 7 days. I plan to stay in Fez, Chefchaouen, and Marrakech.

Which city is the best place to celebrate New Years Eve? I am a single traveler who wants to see how locals usher in the new years.

If you are genuinely interested in Moroccan architecture and Art, you have no further to travel than Tangiers. There are some beautiful old buildings, plus many art galleries. If you interested in Art, then Assilah has an art festival normally during the whole of August, though I am not sure if it will carry on during the latter part of August when Ramadam commences. Fes is beautiful too, but during the months of July and August it is extremely hot, and in my opinion not the best time to visit that city. As the previous poster has stated, it takes at least 5 hours by train..

Forget about Morocco for New Year, it os not celebrated to the extent that Europe does. I have normally been bored out of mind on a New Years Eve, far better to be in Spain at that time.

As someone wrote here awhile back, Tangiers is to Morocco what Tijuana is to Mexico. If you can't get into the "heart" of Morocco, skip it this time!

I was in your position last year with only 3 days to experience what i could of Morocco and so I opted to only go to Chaufchaun which was absolutely amazing. I would defintely recommend it, especially if you want to escape european influence and all the touristy stuff as my friends and I were 5 of about 10 tourists in the entire village. And we were there in the middle of the European summer.

In this town, the life style is very destructive in terms of people hassling you trying to see you drugs and whatever, but apart from that, you see a true side to Morocco I think. 3 days was perfect here and we also did a day trip to some waterfalls about 45 minutes away by taxi which was defintely worth it.

Anyway, have a great trip.

I plan to go to Morocco in the summer; arriving into Europe in late June and leaving Europe in early August. Everyone is telling me that it is going to be very hot in Morocco and that maybe I should avoid it. I want to hike the high Atlas mountains/do the camel ride on the desert/visit Fez and Chaufchaeun.

When you were there in the summer, how hot was Chaufchaeun? I checked the weather and it was only low 80's. Also, would staying in Chaufchaeun allow me to do any hiking? What did you do during your 3 days in that town?

your very welcome. When I was there, it was quite hot, maybe 90 farenheit I think, around 32degrees more accurately.

In the 3 days I was there I did:
1. a day hike that was great into the mountains with a tour guide and we got to see the entire village. There are several options in terms of trails, so just ask your hostel or hotel service and they can tell you about all the paths.

2. Went outside of Chefchaeun to an amazing waterfall which everyone knows about in the town and defintely recommend leaving early in the morning for that and spending literally the whole day there (bring your own food) and you can swim in the rivers which is all natural water and very clean.

3. On this day, I went around the village in all the stalls, at the local restaurants and got to know the town.

Anyway hikes are very common there so make sure you go there with your hiking boots. : )

Is there immunization requirements? I found your comments quite helpful as I will be in Spain in September and would like to go to Morocco for a short visit. I have a couple of additional questions though. Since I have a life-threatening pulmonary condition (early Pulmonary Fibrosis) I need to be careful with respect to exposure. So, I am somewhat concerned about things like Maleria or TB. Any insight on that would be quite helpful as well as whether any immunization is required for entry. Thanks.
