Middle Atlas or Chefchaouen

Hello,
We are staying in Meknes and have one free weekend.
Have been trying to see where to go. Would like to go to Chefchaouen but it seems like a long drive. Not sure if it is worth it. If there was a train ride, I would not mind long ride.

Middle Atlas seems like short drive but cannot figure out what to do there.

Would appreciate any idea/information.

Thanks

Check out what I wrote about Chefchaouen several years ago (2013?). Sorry that I can't help you with Middle Atlas. ZZ

I loved Chefchaouen. It's charming, quaint and lovely. With an early start, you should be able to make it there by late morning/noon'ish, which then gives you all the rest of that day + most of the following day before driving back to, I assume Meknes? That would be the perfect amount of time to spend there. You don't say what else is on your itinerary, so hard for me to comment much more than this, but Chefchaouen was one of my favorite places I visited earlier this year in Morocco.

As suggested above Chefchaouen is only viable as an overnight trip, see what I wrote at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTo...an_Region.html

The Middle Atlas is gorgeous with its lakes and springs, cedar and holm oak (evergreen) forests, wild monkeys, volcanos, beautiful flowers... Leave Meknes on the N13, the ground starts to rise as you get to El Hajeb (the eyebrow in Arabic). Further along there's a viewpoint called Paysage d'Ito named after a female warrior of the region, which overlooks a massive field of small volcanos.

You can go and see the wild monkeys, see location map at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel...ar.Forest.html

Ifrane is worth seeing for its immaculate streets, university and King's palace.
