Marrakech Itinerary - Desert or Atlas?

Jump to last reply

I have a short probably 5 night/ 6 day trip (maybe one night/day less depending on a flight) to Marrakech coming up in mid-October and was trying to narrow down an itinerary. When I mention Morocco, most people ask me if I am going to the Sahara, but looking into things, Atlas activities such as Toubkel or the Cascades d'Ouzoud look amazing.

With such a short timeline, I am assuming I can only choose either doing the desert or some Atlas day trips along with spending some time in the city. I'd of course love to see the Sahara and am sure it'd be a great experience, but I have done a weekend trip in the past to the Gobi desert as well as camel rides there.

I know the Sahara is bigger. has taller dunes, more iconic, etc., but I was wondering other's opinions on just skipping the desert to focus on some of the Atlas activities. Are the Saharan dunes that much better than others that giving up some time in middle Morocco would be warranted?

So, if I skipped the desert, I was thinking of trying to fit in Marrakech, Toubkel, Cascades d'Ouzoud, and Todra Gorge or Ouazazate. Would this itinerary even be too ambitious, or passing over some other gems of the area?
