Malaria fears

I am looking for advice and facts on malaria. I have searched this forum and I have looked elsewhere online. I know that nothing is 100% effective. I am just concerned because I am one of those people who CONSTANTLY gets bitten--even with deet, proper clothing, etc.

We are staying at Anjajavy in Madagascar.

Do I have no chance? Any advice would be aprpeciated.

Thanks.

In the early mornings and late afternoon/evenings, dress up long sleeves, trousers and socks. The parts that stick out spray with DEET stuff. Burn citronella candles/oil lamps (you get some nice travel ones in a tin).

Eating lots of garlic before you go and while there will help keep them away too.

Make sure you mention to your doctor you were in a malaria-area SHOULD you get symptoms (flu like) around 2 weeks after your visit. They should then do a blood test. Then they can treat it quickly.

A mozzie net is a good idea for sleeping - http://www.african-safari-journals.c...o-netting.html

and oh yes, coils that you can burn in your room (not in a tent) before you go to bed.

and just because you get bit by a few mosquitos doesn't mean you WILL get malaria. Take the meds, cover up at night and use repellant.

Shari - I just returned from Botswana, Zambia and South Africa. I too am a favorite for the mosquitos (I think it is the pasty white skin), but I took the Malarone as directed as well as using the deet (35%) and sleeping under mosquito nets. I actually got bitten less here than I do at home. Please don't miss up the opportunity to travel to an exciting place because of the malaria risks. The medication is pretty effective.
