I am thinking of going to Liuwa with Robin Pope Safaris in May 2010. Has anyone experienced this trip? Hope to combine it with the Shoebill Safari as well.

There might be some archived information on safaritalk.
I remember some topics on Liuwa from a while ago.

Please share your findings! May should be a good time for the shoebills.
Thanks people. Not much on the safarilink site but I have lots of time to keep looking. Elaine
I went to Liuwa Plain with Robin Pope Safaris in May 2009. The park is beautiful, and it is humbling to be someplace so remote. The highlights for me were the flowers and birds. If your goal is to see a lot of game, I'd suggest South Luangwa in Zambia instead. I have been to Nkwali and Tena Tena (both Robin Pope camps) in South Luangwa, and would recommend both.
Thank you deelo. The remoteness is what appeals to me most. This will be my 14th safari so the big ones are not neccessary.
Did you do the Shoebill Safari while with RPS?
Cheers Elaine
Hi Elaine.
I have not done to the Shoebill Safari, but I imagine it's an amazing trip. Liuwa Plain appealed to me because so few people have visited it, and the remoteness of the park and the vastness of the plains did not disappoint. I think it could be a great trip for you.
A 14th safari is very impressive. I am doing my third safari (Rwanda and Tanzania, Selous and Ruaha) later this summer, and would like to plan another trip for next year. On my first I went to South Luangwa in Zambia, and on the second to Liuwa Plain and Lower Zambezi. Do you have any recommendations or favorite places?
Thanks!
Debbie
Hi Debbie
Am sure you enjoyed South Luangwa as much as I did.
I went to Hwangwe in Zim in 2009 and absolutely loved it. The drive from Vic Falls to Main Gate is very scenic, but the internal park roads are pretty bumpy. Great game and no one there. Stayed at The Hide.
Enjoy East Africa. I have never been as it seems difficult to arrange as a single traveller but maybe in the future.
Cheers
Elaine
