Leaving Day After Tomorrow...

...and can it be? Am I packed?

It's our first trip to Botswanna and I'm taking the luggage requirements seriously. Into my impossibly small seeming duffle, I have packed the following for two weeks in the Delta at Mombo, Jao and King's Pool...is this really all I need!

Two pairs of thermal underwear
Two field pants (the legs zip off to make shorts)
Two field shirts
Couple of tee's
Two sweaters (one very warm, one lighter)
Fleece jacket
Socks and underwear
Hiking boots and Birkenstocks

This means daily laundry I guess, but I think that about does it...it seems to easy...

Do you think you need 2 pairs of thermal underwear? Is one to sleep in?

Wilderness does provide blankets or ponchos for cold mornings and night drives.

Are a warm hat (and safari hat) and gloves in there?

You've got yourself a 6-paw holiday!

Very light packing - consider a hat and gloves just in case the mornings are v.cold.

Have a great trip, you are going to two of my fav camps, Mombo and KP.

Do you really need hiking boots, or would athletic shoes do just as well? I don't know that you'll be doing much hiking. If you've already gotten a wide-brimmed safari hat, you might consider a fleece ear-warmer band, as well. You can wear that until it warms up, yet still have on your hat to shade your face. At Kings Pool, they will now wash your undies. They provide a mesh bag for that, now that they have washers and driers.

I assume you'll be packing a shaving and toiletries kit, as well. Make sure you have the basics for upset stomachs, head colds, etc.

I've been to the Delta in August, and it wasn't really cold enough for thermal underwear (I brought that with me to see the polar bears in northern Canada, not to southern Africa). I would recommend that you bring more than a couple of tees -- it can get hot during the day, and you may want to change your tee shirt during the day, and even if you are having your laundry done regularly, a third or fourth tee shirt would be worthwhile.

Also, I would recommend a baseball hat -- the visor keeps the sun out of your eyes, and in the early morning, the sun glare can be brutal.

Thanks for suggestions, everybody! Turns out I was doing the metric conversions wrong, had much more space than I thought and have everything I need!

Off to the airport shortly. Once again, a big thanks to all the nice people who answered many questios and offered great suggestions as we were planning this trip.

I know we'll have a great time, I'll provide a full report when I get back at the end of August!
