We have taken 3 trips to South Africa in early August. It is a wonderful time to go! It is the end of their winter and we have found the weather to be chilly in the early morning and evenings but quite pleasant and warm during the day. As far as the game drives (safari) it is a perfect time for viewing because the leaves are still off of the trees so the animals can't hide as easily. Tracking them is so much easier.

Either place. If migration is a high point, then Kenya. If they'd like to include walking near penguins or safe cage diving with Great White Sharks (July/Aug is perfect shark time), then South Africa.
Aug seems to be busier and airfares a little more expensive than July.
If the trip is for this year, see where availability exists. No wrong choice.
