Has anyone been to Kenya in February? I have an offer to go late Feb/early March. Is this a good time to go?

Where in Kenya will you be visting? And for how long - number of days, accommodations?

I find that Kenya is good anytime, so what is your objective when visiting here? What do you hope to see - or just everything! One thing for sure, you're not likely to find the crowds normally seen during the Migration months (July thru October. Otherwise the weather is good and dry and gameviewing should meet your expectations.

Again, give us an idea of where.

It's Feb19-March 4. Start in Nairobi, Kenya Natl Museum, Animal Orphanage, Giraffe Manor, Karen Blixen's House. North to Outspan Hotel, Treetops. Nanyuki, Isiolo, Samburu Game Reserve. Great Rift Valley, Hell's Gate Park, Lake Naivasha, Maasai Mara. Not visiting Serengeti - will I be missing something? Are balloon rides recommended to do in Maasai Mara?

I've been in Kenya in February of last year. It's a wonderful time for a safari, all is green and it does rain very rarely. You won't see the migration in the Mara, but there are a lot of animals still there - and the big cats have their young cubs. In Samburu we saw elephant calves suckling, only five metres from the vehicle - a dream! And the parks are less overcrowded than during the dry season (Jul-Oct). Balloon rides? It's still a wonderful experience, but if you plan to go back to Kenya during migration time I would make it at that time.

You never know what the weather will be like at any time. We went on safari to kenya February 20-march 2, 2002. It was raining every night and on many roads in Masaai Mara we could not get through. we were stocked three times. regardless of the weather we had an unforgettable trip. The park and lodges were almost empty. It was right after 9/11. I would not return February/march but wait until July /August

While not so many Fodorites go to Kenya at this time of the year, look at the threads and see how many of us visit Ngorongoro and the Serengeti during that time - and the climatic situation in Tanzania is the same as in Kenya.

Sorry, I didn't read your posting very well. Of course, rain at night is a wonderful thing. Clean and fresh air in the morning, no more dust - best conditions to make great photos. Last year I got stuck six times in the Mara. No problem at all but big fun. And I learned about the advantages of a closed safari vehicle during one thunder storm.
