My husband and myself are in our early 40s and plan on using our RCI points to book a week in Jerusalem. The dates would be 30 Sept - 6 Oct which falls in their period of Sukkot (Feats of tabernacles). We know it is not ideal but would like you Fodorites to say if it is doable to see Israel's highlights from there. We are reborn Christians and would also like some recommendations for a tourguide for this period. It would be really nice if he is a Mesianic Jew. Any suggested itinararies and must sees are welcome. (The week before we will be doing Egypt and the week after the Greek isles)
Jerusalem stay only

Is it possible to see most of Israel with Jerusalem as base?
Any suggestions for a Messianic Jew as a tourguide?
Riana,
You may want to post your questions here. This site is full of experts on Israel:

It is very difficult to tour the entire country from Jerusalem. But then, it is very difficult to see a lot on only a 1 week visit. I do not know what RCI points are. Is that for a flight or accommodations. If for accommodations do you HAVE a hotel lined up? It is very hard to get a reservation for part of Sukkot.
During the time you are there many national and Jewish sites will be closed. ( Christian sites will be open) Also, public transportation will stop at sundown on Sunday the 30th and not resume until after sundown on Monday. It will stop again on Friday the 5th after sundown ( for the Sabbath) Other times the country will be crowded with both internal and foreign tourists.
IN terms of looking for a tour guide of a specific background--all tour guides are trained and well versed in religions that are not their own.
