Itinerary Help - South Africa

Hi all! My husband and I are planning a trip to South Africa for the end of November - beginning of December and could use some help fine tuning our itinerary. The most troubling part is that we have 3 nights to "spare" before our arrival in Cape Town and we're not sure what to do... we will be landing in JNB in the morning of November 27th and checking into our hotel in Cape Town any time on the 30th, staying there for 5 nights, and heading to Kruger for 3 nights. So far our options for 11/27-30 are:

1) Victoria Falls, though I've read that the flow this time of year is low and it might not be "worth it"

2) Fly from JNB to Port Elizabeth and spend 3 nights along the Garden Route towards Cape Town - looks awesome and there is a lot to do! Just wondering if we might be packing in too much driving from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town over 3 nights/4 days?

2) 3 nights in Europe, likely Paris, but we're hesitant because this means packing for 2 different trips (winter and summer) and knowing how dreary the weather is this time of year.

4) Something else I am not thinking of???

I can't decide what the best option is! Would love your advice. TIA!

"Worth" is subjective. But it's not the best time to visit VF - go next time (you'll be back). Stopping in Europe just isn't S Africa!! You're going all that way and spending part of it in Europe? No - again, do that another time.

The drive form PE to CT is ok in 3 nights, just don't try to pack too much in. Maybe 2 nights in Storms River/Wilderness and one night in Plett, Knysha or Hermanus? It's only about 800 km to CT. Or do a game reserve or Addo then fly PE to CPT - see below.

You could add three nights in Kruger Park. It's fun to do a self drive - similar to visiting Yellowstone. Or more nights in another private reserve lodge. No matter how many nights I've been on safari, it's never been too many!

No matter what you choose in S Africa, you'll love it.

Spend the time in Johannesburg with a day trip out to the Cradle of Humankind. We had two nights there after Kruger and before heading to Cape Town, we could very easily have spent more time there.

The drive from port Elizabeth to Cape Town can easily be done though also - we did it as a round trip from Cape Town and drove back on the inland R62 which we found just as fascinating as the coast route.

We loved the Winelands region of South Africa. We connected from JNB to CPT, picked up a rental car at the airport in CPT, and drove to our accommodations just outside of Franschhoek, where we spent 3 nights. The scenery in the area is beautiful, and if you like wine, there are tons of great wineries to explore. Also, we thought the wine tastings there were a bargain - much more inexpensive (and a lot more wine per tasting) than in Europe. It was very relaxing and a great place to get over jet lag before the Cape Town and Kruger portions of our trip.
