It is possible to book a last minute trip to SA and Botswana for six people

Jump to last reply

I just wanted to relay an experience here with an almost last minute booking that might help others in the future. I was interested in booking a safari in SA and Botswana from mid-April to early May this year for six people. I started looking around March 1 but began in earnest around March 9 and thought I would encounter extreme difficulties---especially looking for three tents/rooms. I was wrong. While I encountered a few full camps, I found most properties had availability. I lost a few camps (e.g. Chiefs) by not responding promptly to my TA.

I booked beginning April 14:

2 nights Camp Jabulani
2 nights Vuyatela
3 nights Mala Mala Main
1 night Joburg Westcliff
3 nights Deception Valley
2 nights Duba Plains
2 nights Duma Tau
2 nights Royal Livingstone

The only real disappointment I had was flight availability. I could not book the 10:00 flight from Johannesburg to Maun and instead had to take the 13:00 flight.

All in all though, this trip was very time-consuming to finalize as at times I needed at times to be in hourly contact with my TA over e-mail to secure properties and cancel provisional bookings. We tried three or four permutations before reaching the final itinerary.
