Israel with kids in August

We are arriving in Israel on Friday evening and need to be at a Tel Aviv wedding on Monday. We are flying back on Sunday. Our total time will be 10 days in Israel. We have children 10 and 12. We will rent a car. Any recommendations how to plan our trip and where to go while in Israel? Does it make sense to fly or drive to Eilat in August? Your advice is most appreciated. Thanks so much. P.S. My family has never been to Israel. I spent 8 weeks there in the 1990s.

We spent a month in Israel in October-November, 2015.
Hiking near Eilat, the temperature in mid-October was over 100 degrees.

abram- We had thought to go to Eilat at the end of October, 2017 but if it's over 100 even then, I guess we'll pass and spend more time in another area!

There is no point to driving down to Eilat in August in the extreme summer heat when you have so many excellent beaches available on the Mediterranean coast, e.g. in Tel-Aviv. Note that sunbathing between 10 AM and 4 PM is considered dangerous so confine your beach time to earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon. You will prefer to be in Tel-Aviv/Haifa/Akko where there is plenty to do and see in the cities and nearby during the day. You should also plan to spend several days in the Galilee.

August is a very busy time in Eilat as that;s when most Israelis go (Summer vacation), So the flights will be packed, and there are many delays. From personal experience, I prefer driving to Eilat. The flight may be short, but getting to the airport, security, and waiting around, it's not that much shorter than driving.
I also prefer having a car in Eilat to get around.
Also, the Arava very pretty.
