Israel- Northern Region

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are coming to Israel mainly to watch my daughter who will be playing in the Maccabiah games from July 18-July 30.
We do not have her game schedule yet so I can't get our itinerary together.
We were in Israel 15 yrs ago with our 3 children and travelled with a private guide which was the best travel experience we ever had. We did all the "must see" sights and then ended in Eilat for several days of R&R.
For this trip, when the games are over, we'd like to travel to the North with my daughter.

1) How many days would you recommend for a leisurely travel up North without trying to cram everything in?
A) should we base ourselves in Haifa?
B) Can anyone recommend an itinerary including hotels etc???
2) rather than hiring a guide @ $600/day + food/accomodations, should we rent a car, drive up to Haifa(?), and either do group tours or hire private guides once we get up there? Can this even be done? Can we tour it on our own??
3) During the 2 weeks we're there for the games, do you recommend we split our time between Jerusalem & Tel Aviv? And/or accommodations seem less expensive in Jaffa. Would this be an inconvenience for us? Any other areas you can recommend??
4) Can I tentatively book private tours and/or group tours?
5) Can I book all my tours once I arrive in Israel through the hotel, if I stay in hotel, or Ministry of Tourism?

I'd really appreciate any and all suggestions/recommendations anyone out there can give me!!! Thanks!!!
