Sorry Kim, we will be looking for a place near Cape town. Since it will be July, I thought that we would look for a place on the Indian Ocean, in the False Bay area -- Simonstown, Glencairn or over toward Somerset and Gordon Bay. That way we could see the whales, be close to wine country but also close for day trips into the city center. Does this make sense?

In that case - the house I posted above is lovely and is in Simons town - I have other pictures if you would like to see them. The pics on the website actually make the house look smaller than it is (that's the first time I've ever seen that!)

Searched for houses in Simons Town area and found it - didn't find too many possibilities on the beach I might mention - most of it is public.

I have had good luck finding holiday homes on http://www.capestay.co.za/
Good listings and you are able to deal directly with owners. Any opinions here making our base of operations in Fish Hoek? Again, it would be mid-July.

Amy - we spent almost 4 weeks in Simons Town and loved it - Fish Hoek is great too - not quite as "cute" but the main shopping area so quite convenient.

From Simons Towbn we happily did day trips into Cape Town, Wine Country, all over the cape peninsula and we went to Gansbaai overnight to do the shark diving. I'll soon be posting a trip report with lots of restaurant recos.
