Hotel in Nairobi - safe but not expensive
Hi
We are two Norwegian girls arriving in Nairobi around 19:00 in the evening and leaving the next morning by shuttle to Arusha at 08:00.
We've tried to find a decently priced yet safe hotel to stay, but it is difficult to find anything on the internet apart from rediculessly cheap (then we wonder if it's safe) or very expensive.
We actually booked with Meridian Court Hotel but I decided to check it out here a little first since I find very few and conflicting reviews from travellers on the web. Anyone who's stayed there or know of anyone who have?
Thanks

it would help to know your price range.
a suggestion i received here was the nairobi backpackers- it is not a dorm! they have private rooms and even a cottage you can share. they also offer an airport pickup.
i stayed at the pan afric for about $70. split two ways that's only $35. i wouldn't eat the food there, but it was safe and convenient. fairview just behind it also apparently offers good rates. i found my rate online at expedia.
i don't know the hotel you're talking about, but i think you should try the backpackers...they are really nice and have a web site and get great reviews from budget travelers.

Hi Cammy,
Haven’t stayed there myself but you should be fine at the Meridian Court. There are cheaper hotels that are perfectly safe though. Personally I can recommend the Terminal - unless they’ve raised their prices, it’s 1500 shillings for a double - and Nairobi Backpackers sounds nice as well.

Cammy,
I will be staying at the Nairobi Backpackers, in a private room for $22US. I've read good reviews and have heard that it is safe. They also offer transfers from the airport. I will be returning from my trip in Nov and will report my thoughts on it if you like.

The Panafric hotel is a nice option. The Eriksen Adventure booked us there and we paid USD 110 for a double room bed and breakfast.
There is also a good budget hotel in the city centre and it was going for USD 65 for a double. We checked the hotel and it was nice though we opted for Panafric.

We are going now in October so a Nov feedback will be too late I'm afraid
Too bad noen of you had actually stayed at the Meridian Court Hotel. But I got loads of good tips on other hotels in case it turns out to be crap and we need to switch once we get there.
Am still interested in feedback from people who stayed at Meridian Court though - untill take-off on the 11th of Oct I'll be checking ;-)
Thanks for the info everyone!
