Honeymoon
Hi
We are looking to travel to the Seychelles in July 2006 for our honeymoon. We're looking to stay at L'Archipel in Praslin but I just wanted to know about prices there. For people that have been here - Is food in the actual hotel very expensive? Are there shops/restaurants nearby where we can buy food from? Also is vegetarian food a problem to find in the Seychelles?

Most hotels book including all meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Depending on with whom you book, thru an agent in the Seychelles or direct with the hotel, you may be able to arrange for breakfast only and then pay for lunch or dinner if you eat at the hotel. The prices are not inexpensive, nor did we find they were very expensive.
For lunch you may very well find yourself booking full-day tours and these include lunch, so that is one meal you don't need at the hotel.
On the strip of land where L'Archipel is located there are restaurants nearby, either standalone or belonging to other hotels. Even the Casino is nearby and many reserve for dinner or lunch here.
Vegetarian is very easy here, it's easy to avoid meat, though fish is readily available and fresh daily. But be certain to specify "vegetarian" when booking.
Overall the Seychelles are expensive in that they are an island chain and most everything has to be shipped in - not unlike many other island worldwide.
From where are you traveling to honeymoon in the Seychelles? For how long is your planned stay?
From Praslin you can arrange day-tours to other islands (especially 1-day by Ferry to La Digue), but it's also a good idea to spend a few days on the main island of Mahe. If honeymooning for 7-days - 4-5/days on Praslin and 2-3/days on Mahe are a good combination. Hope this helps.

Like Sandi said, we found the food on the island to be fairly expensive. However, the good news is that because of the heat, we didn't eat as much as we do at home. I also have a restaurant suggestion.... If you want to take a taxi ride to a romantic spot, try Les Roches. It was excellent and the staff were incredibly friendly. The Seychellois community and the food is truly lovely. Have fun!

Sandi - I'm travelling from the UK and we plan to stay in the Seychelles for 10 days and another 4 days in a city - havent decided which one yet. Having done some more research we're thinking of 7 nights in L'archipel, Praslin and 3 in Sunset Beach, Mahe

I looked through my Seychelles bookmarks and found the following reviews on Sunset Beach (we were crazy with our research before visiting the islands last year). We didn't stay on Mahe, but I thought you'd like to see these reviews if you haven't already. I also found a link about restaurant recommendations (since that was your original question). Personally, I think 7-days on Praslin may be a bit much, but then you're on your honeymoon... so? No comment. The 3-days on Mahe is a good change of scenery. You can rent a car here and drive around the island, stop off at remote beaches, and there are lots of tours offered by the hotels.
Same is true on Praslin - they offer day-tours and 1/2-day tours. Instead of the 1-day tour to LaDigue Island, you may want to consider spending 2 or 3 days here instead. You'd have to go by ferry from Praslin and though not as many accommodations as found on Praslin or Mahe it is rather romantic - no vehicles except emergency fire engine. Transport by foot, bicycle, ox cart taxis... very interesting. Lots of interesting coves.
