Have you toured with OAT-Egypt?
On one of our upcoming excursions, we visit a school operated by catholic nuns. Are they being taught catholism?
We always brings gifts for the children but would like to bring the nuns some special items.
Can anyone share their visit to this OAT sponsored school in Egypt?
Thanks.
Any other info you care to share regarding your experience with OAT in Egypt is most appreciated.

I did the school visit on my 2002 trip with OAT (in Luxor, perhaps?) Many of the best schools in some foreign countries are run by church groups, Catholics, Anglicans, etc. It seemed like any other school I've visited in Africa. The girls were excited about the visit and enjoyed practicing their English with us. I had a camcorder with me and turned the screen around where they could see themselves being taped. They loved it and I had a rather large crowd of giggling school girls around me in no time! Most of the group donated a few dollars to help with the school.
I enjoyed the trip to Egypt with OAT. I had problems with the Boston office, as I have on my other 2 OAT trips, but the organization on the ground in Egypt went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Be aware that the "only 16 travelers" in Egypt is a bit misleading, as they will probably combine at least 2 groups. You'll still have your own guide and bus, though. Some of the things we did as part of our tour are now extra, such as the Abu Simbel visit. It's worth the extra cost, though.

Thanks so much for writing with info on the school visit. We have traveled with OAT before and found them outstanding. Russia with Grand Circle was one of our best tours. We do like the small groups; less hassle boarding and disembarking the bus...easier than 40-50 opposed to 12-16. We know that two groups will probably travel together with their own leader and bus but will share the ship for 4 days. That's fine.
If you check this site again, please tell me if they were nuns in habits at the school in Egypt?
Thanks again for writing.

Thanks. If you would not mind. I'm sure the sisters would appreciate something special from the states. Poverty is always one of their vows and we always bring special items for our school visits. With nuns, that is even more special to us.
Thanks again. Whatever info you might find. We leave April 28th

I went back and looked at my photos; yep, the nuns were in habits. Of course, you may visit a different school, as OAT and Grand Circle usually rotate among schools (at least they do in Tanzania.) I haven't the foggiest idea what to give a nun, but perhaps they would enjoy sweets or something like that.
