Grant Atkinson and the Chobe riverfront

As I am always looking for info/news on Botswana, I stumbled upon this:

http://www.africageographic.com/blogs/?p=84#more-84

I was glad to read that Grant Atkinson, a WS guide also loves the Chobe riverfront. I am always surprised to hear/read that a lot of people say it's not worth to go there as it's overcrowded.

Well if you do it the proper way, you can have a hell of a time and I would dare to claim that for serious photographers/safari lovers it's an absolute must to visit the area.

Cheers,

Johan

Get your own boat--that sounds intriguing.

I question my ability to navigate around the hippos, however.

Thanks for sharing this.

Boats can be easily chartered - the equivalent of a private vehicle. Of course, you don't navigate yourself but use a guide instead.

Johan, as interesting as the sighting itself - the emphasis on the point of getting out early!!!

I enjoyed that article and photos. I didn't realize that there might be wild dogs there. We're staying on the Ichobezi Riverboat on the Chobe. Because it's Namibian-registered, we get to stay on the river overnight. They have small boats that we can use to get around, so I'm looking forward to getting out early on the river, as Grant did.

BTW, Grant was the camp manager at Kwetsani when I visited there in 2000. This was my first camp in Botswana and remains my favorite, thanks in no small part to Grant and his staff.
