From a NY paper:
Tourists became trapped inside Kenya's Masai Mara game reserve - surrounded by killer animals - when their vehicles became stuck in the mud.
"What could have been an enjoyable and exciting journey became very risky," said one scared visitor. "I have never experienced anything like this."

surrounded by killer animals
Anytime I read something about the deadly "killer animals" I think back to those 8 - 10 year old Maasai boys armed with little more than sticks herding succulent goats in the midst of leopard and lion country

Bill,
The first thing I thought of was what a great photo op that would be. I know most of us would be going nuts with our camera if an opportunity like that presented itself.
But that's why we're Africaphiles!
And that's why I want to read the rest of the story first. Trying not too quick to judge. ;-)

The best i can come up with is a report from the East African Standard, Kenya which starts "About 300 tourists were stranded yesterday as floods cut off a road ..." to read the whole article go here:

When we were in the Mara in May, our vehicle broke down in bad weather. A couple of us got out, and tried to help out to no avail... afterwords we walked about 200 feet to help another vehicle which was stuck. Funny thing is that we were tired as it was a long day (did the early morning balloon ride and was out all day on safari), and we didnt even think until that night that we were out walking around...

Just got off the phone this morning with my contact/friend in NBO. She said it's still pummeling down in Kenya, especially around the Mara area.
As we've imagined, it's created quite a mess. She said if I was coming in the next week, she would be very concerned about visiting the Mara/southern parks and would suggest making alternate plans.
The northern parks aren't anywhere near the mess.
She's hoping, since it will be another 3 to 4 weeks before I'm in Kenya since I'll be in Rwanda for several days first, that things will change.
Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop for anyone who has immediate plans.
