Is it safe to eat the uncooked fresh fruits and veggies at Vic Falls and the Wilderness Safari camps in Botswana?

Do they wash with bottled water?

Have you ever gotten sick while on safari?

I think we did eat the fresh fruit and we did not get ill from it. I doubt that they wash with bottled water but who knows. I did get sick with a bad cold and cough because they left a hidden window open above our heads in the tent at Mombo. Lasted the whole trip...

We've eaten fresh fruit and veggies everywhere in Africa. Pineapple, kiwi, mango, bananas, just about whatever was presented. It is usually suggested not to eat those things contailing a lot of water - lettuce, watermelon, cucumber. Except for lettuce which didn't see regularly, we loved the watermelon and the cucumbers were so sweet. No problems with any of us..

I had no problems at either the Victoria Falls Hotel (if that's what you mean by Vic Falls) or the two Wilderness Camps (Chitabe and Savuti) I stayed at.

I have been on safari four times (3 times in East Africa & once in Southern Africa). Did not get sick once from the food.

But meant to say, lots of bugs at Mombo. More than anywhere (we were there in dry season). In fact I don't recall seeing bugs in all the other camps, including two more rustic ones (both permanent tents).

The only time I ever got sick at a game lodge was at Matetsi Water Lodge (CC Africa property halfway between Victoria Falls and Chobe).

Although Matetsi Water Lodge was in an absolutely perfect location, with plenty of elephants, giraffes and other non-predators, other than one fabulous barbeque dinner, with white linen, silver and fine china in the bush, (close enough to Victoria Falls to hear them thundering in the background) the food was mostly mediocre. I suspect something was probably undercooked or perhaps it was the veggies, I don't know. It wasn't too bad, but was enough to cause discomfort for a day or two.
