Flights to Uganda & Kenya

It appears most Uganda tours start in Kampala but the only international airport is Entebbe. Is that correct? If we fly from the USA to Entebbe, how best to get to Kampala?

Also, if before or after Uganda we also wish to travel to Nairobi, Amboseli and the Masai Mara in Kenya, which airlines fly Entebbe to Nairobi? I cannot find any flights Kampala to Nairobi.

Thank you

Okay, a little dated but here goes. For our 2012 Sept trip we flew to Amsterdam and then flight to Kilgali Ruwanda with about an hour stop before going on to Entebbe. If I recall return flight was to Amsterdam with a refueling stop in Rome and then to Amsterdam for flight to US. (KLM)

For spring of 2013 we tried Ethiopian Airlines from states to Addis Abba, Ethiopia and then couple hour flight to Entebbe. At end of time in Uganda we took a Uganda Airlines flight to Nairobi for the Kenyan portion of three country safari.

Usually I work with our local AAA office for all flight arrangements but the one from Uganda to Kenya was handled by safari provider Churchill Safaris in Kampala.

Thank you. I think I figured this out. First, most of the Uganda tour companies will arrange a transfer to Kampala. Next I found that on Vayama.com I can search for one-way flights Entebbe to Nairobi. RwandaAir has well priced non-stops and we flew them two years ago from JRO to Kigali. Loved them. Any other thoughts let me know.

As you rightly state, Entebbe is the nearest Airport to Kampala, and is approx, 55 km away. Allow around 1.5 - 2 hrs for the journey during peak times (6 am - 10 am and 2 pm to 9 pm).

There are two airlines that fly between EBB NBO non-stop - being Kenya Airways and Rwanda Air. I prefer Kenya Airways, as the planes are roomier, and tend to be on time. But Kenya Airways is more expensive. NBO EBB is one of the most expensive flights in the world based on mileage flown.

Good luck with your planning.

I flew Kenya Air nonstop Entebbe to to Nairobi in Summer 2012. Excellent flight. Entebbe Airport was a pleasant surprise--clean, roomy, wifi everywhere, and a few decent places to eat . NBO was a surprise of the opposite kind.

Be sure to read up on the history of Entebbe Airport, The original terminal is where the Israelis rescued an airplane full of hostages. You can see it at a distance from the current one. And if not already done, see and/ or read "Last King of Scotland" before a trip to Uganda for an appreciation of what that country has gone through.

Having friends in Kampala, I enjoyed it, but depending on your plans, there's no particular reason to stop overnight there. Lots of visitors spend the afternoon/overnight in Entebbe town, which has loads of very nice, African feel (not cookie cutter) guesthouses and small hotels such as Airport Guesthouse,, and others listed on TA. From here, the tour guide may and can take you straightaway to the safari part of your holiday.

Glad to hear you're considering Uganda!!!
