Flight time, serra cafema to Windhoek
1. Whats flight time from Serra Cafema to Windhoek? Travel agent says you can get to WDH in the morning for a 10:50 AM departure to JoBerg. Sounds tight to me.

Go to www.serracafema.com, select the 'factsheet' tab, look under 'FLYING TIME'.

First, an early morning flight is good because the thermals that form later can making flying rough. Second, what time do you leave Serra Cafema? Unless things have changed from last year, you arrive at Eros and will have to be driven to WDH. Assuming you want to get to WDH an hour before your flight, when you factor in the drive time I would think you would be leaving SC's airstrip well before 6 AM. Since the airstrip is quite aways from SC you will be getting up very early.

In past years the internal flights we took were landing at Eros which is located on the southern edge of Windhoek. WDH is quite a ways east of the city. From what Marija says that may have changed. If that's the case for your flight, then you can leave out the travel time between airports. It is quite a drive from SC to the airstrip so you will still be getting up very early.

It takes abot 3 days to drive to Serra Cafema... Not the sort of place you really want to rush into and out of. More a tranquil retreat. If you are worrying about flight times, you aren't going to relax and get your money's worth. Plenty of equally good places nearer WDH.

What good advice, so if I am worried about making any connecting flights I shouldn't go to the destination. What useful things I've learned here. I hope this gem is added to the FAQ if one is ever posted.
What does the drive time to Serra Cafema have to do with the discussion?

Sorry if I wasn't clear.... I just voiced my opinion that if you are going to the remotest lodge in Southern Africa to relax and soak up the atmosphere, it seems counterproductive to rush around the country trying to catch connecting flights.
There are easier places to get to and from which may be suitable for those pressed for time.
Sorry if my opinion offended anyone.

well I am the one that started it .glad I asked as I was tentatively staying there the night before a noon next day wdh departure.
And I found out:
its 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to the Serra airstrip.
then 3 1/2 hrs to eros with a pilot overnighting I would have had to pay for
then a transfer to WDH
too much
rearranged schedule
thanks all

I would say 1 hour to the strip is more the norm but the flight could easily be 4 hours if the wind is bad so the total time is the same. Interesting te Etosha flights land at WDH, looks like the SC are still.
You might want to get a new travel agent as it seems your initial info was was seriously in error.
