Flight or take a jeep transfer from Nairobi to Masai Mara?

I wouldn't drive myself. But wonder if it is worth taking the 5-5 hour trip to see more countryside.

My understanding is that the roads aren't great and there's not necessarily a lot to see. I always just want to get there asap so will take the first flight out that I'm there for. The only reason you might do this is to save money, but I'd weigh that against potentially missing out on a day's worth of game drives in the Mara.

Hi Terry. I've done both. Until you get to the border /entrance of the MM National Reserve , the road isn't bad, but from that point on, it's mostly uncomfortable, with infamous "African massage" shaking every vertebra in your back. As you've plenty of time per your first post, so the times-saver aspect doesnt much matter.I'm glad I did it , but opted for fly-in next time, purely for comfort.

To repeat the advice given in your previous post, you really, really should contact a good safari organizer company. They will describe options, and answer questions, including transport and lodging(whether tents of assorted "luxury" levels, or proper buildings) and work with all logistics, from airport pickup to drop off. based on your choice. For Kenya, I used both a small local company, and then Gamewtchers, which I would recommend.

No need to choose the Norfolk unless a particular reason (was it tied into the deal for the Fairmont tensed camp?) There's also, among others, the Fairview and the Mayfair Southern Sun. I've stayed in both, particularly love the Mayfair (long story). There are loads of new cookie-cutter places in Nairobi, including near the airport, but for your first two night visit, do choose something with local "character"

A really charming B&B in Nairobi is Macushla House - small & popular so book early. It's around the corner from the Giraffe Centre in the suburb of Karen which used to be part of Karen Blixens farm (Out of Africa).

If you time your return to Macushla from a day of sightseeing to drive by the Giraffe Centre at around 6:00pm you'll catch the giraffes crossing the road to the forest for the night. Very cool!

Sheldricks is close by also.

We are flying from Nairobi to the Masa next year. I am looking forward to the view from the airplane.
