I am heading to Ethiopia in January 2010 for ~2.5 weeks. In addition to visiting a friend in Addis Ababa, and traveling with her to the north, I plan on doing a 7-10 day wildlife/culture safari to the southern rift valley / omo valley on my own (ideally with a small group, to save on costs).
I would appreciate any advice regarding a reputable tour group / safari company. Thanks!

Trip Report to Egypt and Jordan

Hi Monkey
I don't recall seeing any reports on this site about southern Ethiopia. But maybe someone will surprise us.
I was in Addis in 2008, and will likely return next year.
I haven't made it to the south yet, but I did bookmark this website for a travel company that does "eco tours" in that region.

They should be able to help.
Happy planning!

Ethiopia Safaris are only done by very few safari Companies in Kenya. They normally hire some individuals / tour Guides from this area one of them who took me on Northern Kenya and Ethiopia safari is MR ABDIRIZAK MOHAMED + 0728 22 41 97 OR EMAIL MAABDIRIZAK55@YAHOO.COM
He is very good and knows the way from Kenya (Chalbi desert / North Horr to Ethiopia.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the recommendations. I booked my plane ticket today. I'll be sure to post a trip report when I get back.
Hi Travel-Monkey,
Have you booked your land arrangements to Ethiopia and if so, who did you book with? I am looking for a reputable company and I am interested in a wildlife/culture safari(ideally with a small group).
Thanks for your recommendation.
Hi Mkulove,
I am traveling with Abeba Tours (http://www.abebatoursethiopia.com/), which was recommended to me by a friend and is also in the new Lonely Planet guide. I've been emailing with Tania, who is fantastic. They will also help you arrange to share a tour if there are others interested in the same dates.
I will be focusing on wildlife, and am traveling for 8-days/7-nights to the rift valley lakes (langano, awassa, ziway, abiata-shalla), bale mountains, and Awash national park. I decided not to go to the Omo Valley (but am traveling to Bahir Dar and Lalibela with a friend through a local travel agent).
When are you traveling in Ethiopia?
