Probably not - it should still be REALLY HOT in Sept. Not a bad plan to have one in case, but I'd make it a very light sweater. They are useful for days as well when you need something with sleeves for modesty reasons.
At night it's not a bad idea to have something light with sleeves to protect you from mosquitos if you are anywhere near the Nile, the canals, or gardens where they live and breed.

May I reccommend that you use an aftersun lotion containing a mosquito repellant in the evenings and then you will not need to wear sleeves. Egypt is so much warmer in September. Hope you enjoy your trip. We love Egypt and have been for the last 4 years. ENJOY!

Hi Debbie ( Casual_Cairo)
This may sound a little strange.... ,but yes it is hot in Egypt in September..... and yet
When I was at the evening Sound and Light show at the Pyramids... it got to be a bit cool towards the end. !
So it is over 100 F during the day , it was still in the low 90's F in the evening BUT , when those breezes blew across the sands....it got just a bit cool !!
So take a light seater, the lightest one you have.

Percy, that is true, and also something to consider is IF you get sunburned in the daytime, you will chill in the evening temps quite a bit. Be careful not to get a sunburn, but it does happen faster than you can imagine.

Even if daytime temps are high in the 90s-100s, the evenings will drop, so it's a good idea to have a jacket, sweater, shawl/pashmina.
Hotels are air-conditioned and after a day in bright sun (with possible sunburn) will feel cool to the skin; as are Nile cruise boats indoors. And, if on top deck at night while cruising, the temps can go down 20+ degrees.
When it comes to the desert, it's likewise, but expect the temps to drop even more than when in Egypt.
A coverup of some sort is small enough to pack and better to have than not.
