Egypt trip with a 9 year old
We are thinking of traveling to Egypt with our 9 year old active son. On a different topis someone had said that Egypt is not a place a child would enjoy. Have you traveled to Egypt with your child? What was your experience?

It depends on the child. Some kids would be a holy terror and should never be taken in public. Other kids would absolutely love it and be fantastic.
There were multiple kids on the Trafalgar tour I was on in December. I think the youngest were 10-11'ish, but close enough. They had a fantastic time and were a lot of fun. They were all very intelligent kids, very curious and we were on the go enough that they were never bored.

HI, I want to add my husband and I will be returning to Egypt after 10 years but with our 9 year old grandson. We are all so excited (even his Mom and she's not even going!). I know it will be terrific!

In addition to the comments I made on the other thread - here are some thoughts....
- Check out websites (or books) that can give your son a place to learn about ancient Egypt - or to learn more if he already has a basic knowledge. Here are two that seem pretty good.

- If your son likes to color - here are some pages he might enjoy.

- Encourage your son to buy postcards at the various locations.
- Egyptians LOVE children, but they often seem (to Americans) overly friendly and this can make children and parents uncomfortable at first. It took my sons a while to realize that the men (the women seldom talked to them) really were just being friendly.
- Take breaks. This may not be as easy to do in Egypt as it is in Europe, but we found that taking frequent snack breaks (grabbing some french fries, a slice of pizza and a coke - or beer for the parents) made everyone MUCH happier!!!!
- I know he's 9, but shorts on boys/men just isn't appropriate in Cairo, altho you can get away with it on the cruises and cruise tours and at the beach resorts. In Cairo, my sons found the zip-off pants to be the most comfortable. My husband also used these. My sons had the routine down.......fly into Cairo in shorts and zip-on the bottom part prior to landing.......go to the Cairo airport in long pants and zip-off the bottoms once on the plane to wherever.
