Looking for advice on Egypt tour companies- Would like a 14-21 day trip- January or February 2018. There are a lot of tour companies on the web- need educational and nice accommodations.

Chb,
I wrote a long trip report about our trip to Egypt which you should be able to find here if you click on my screen name. Lots of Fodorites have used local agents in Egypt and that's the most cost effective way to arrange a trip. We used Djed and were very happy with the service/itinerary.
here are my top Ten Tips for Visiting Egypt - don't worry my blog is completely non-commercial!

I've got a lot about Egypt on my blog. We did a 19 day trip which sounds like a similar amount of time and did Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and a three day dahabiya trip down the Nile which I recommend - smallish, historic two floor boat with private bathrooms and a gorgeous top deck.

welltraveledbrit, I am looking at a 2 week trip to Egypt and Petra in Oct of this year. Have been working with myodyssey tours and have been impressed.
Your blogs are fantastic. Thank you for all the info and detail.
Couple of questions. Was your cabin on the Nile air conditioned? And what was the cost of your trip?

Hi dcd and thanks so much for your kind compliment!
I'm delighted that you found the blog useful. I spent quite a bit of time on the posts because there was just just so much great stuff I wanted to remember! Plus I couldn't find that much info on the dahabiya trips twith the exception of stuff written by travel agents or tour companies.
Yes the cabin was air conditioned and very comfortable. As we were the only people on the boat they upgraded us to the cabin with a private deck and it was lovely. The private bathroom was small but functional. It has been a few years so I don't remember the exact price for the whole trip, if you email me welltravbrit (gmail) I might be able to dig up the price if I still have it! Often I arrange things on my own but in Egypt I found the agents could get a better rate than I could at the higher end hotels I wanted. The price from local agents is FAR cheaper than using a foreign agent, though I have no idea about combining it with Jordan as we went there on a separate trip.
Happy travels

Welltravelledbrit,
Oh my goodness- read all of your blog. Every bit of it!
What wonderful information, all set for Egypt, noticed that you have spent time in Jordan can you recommend a tour company?

Chb - I'm really delighted you enjoyed the blog and that you bothered to write such a kind generous comment . You've made my day! Now if only I could get around to writing my trip report on Sudan!
Unfortunately I can't help you with an agent in Jordan as we did the whole thing on our own. We had a taxi transfer from Damascus to Amman and in Amman we picked up a rental car and drove around the country under our own steam which was fun and frankly pretty easy to do. We booked our accommodations directly and I arranged a walking guide so we could enter Petra from the Little Petra side through the Seven Wonders Bedouin Camp. It was a great experience to first enter the site from the desert and avoid the crowds at the Siq.
Sorry I can't be more help but I hope you have a great trip!
