I would think it would be a trip of a lifetime to see these 3 countries, but as of now I am not too sure with all the demonstrations and mass killings going on. My parents and I are huge Christians, so seeing where Jesus lived and grew up would be a dream of a lifetime. Currently with the 3 teenage boys being killed Hamaas we are very concerned about or safety. We won't be going for probably another 5-6 years, so no one can predict if things will get better or worse. We would most likely be going in November, when it is not so hot but peak season for tourists. We would of course like to see the pyramids od Giza, Temples of Karnac, Valley of the Kings and all the touristy things. We will be defintely be taking a tour, but do the terrorists target tour's full of American's? Can you recommend us a tour? In Israel, we wan't to see where Jesus walked and lived. Jersusalem, Bethelham, Jordan River, Masada, all the major sites. Also in Jordan, we would love to see Petra, but heard you have to cross through Syria and that raises a huge red flag for us. So, if someone can respond about safety in these 3 countries and possibly also provide us with a nice tour and some other possible sites that would be amazing. Thanks! We would be going for about 3-4 weeks.

To begin with no one can tell you anything at all about safety or security next week or next month, let alone years from now - the situation can change so quickly.

In terms of Israel I can assure you that safety and security are a number one priority and if you will be coming on an organized tour the tour leaders will take every precaution and make sure that you will always be safe. As to your question about terrorist targeting tours full of Americans - they are terrorists and they simply don't care about anyone but their own agenda.

There is no problem getting to Petra and you do not have to go through Syria for that, there is a border crossing between Israel and Jordan that is not far from Petra.

Plan your trip - you have plenty of time.

Part of me is doubting whether you are really seriously asking about security 5-6 years from now!! I do not know what i will be eating for breakfast tomorrow and you are asking something that no one knows. ( and anyone who claims to is lying)

BTW I can agree with Oreets--the terrorists do not care about anyone but themselves. Life for them is cheap. Look at what is happening today in Iran, Iraq and Syria--hundreds are being killed and the world is relatively quiet. Apparently life only has value if it happening in Israel.

As others have said, no one knows what the security situation will be in the middle east 5 years from now, or for that matter, anywhere else.

However, be assured that tours in Israel that are run by licensed companies are professional and will not take you to places that are not safe. There are a number of excellent companies that specialize in tours oriented to Christian holy and historical, and there are many more than those you have mentioned. Go ahead and plan - It will indeed be the trip of a lifetime. Bring a bible with you and match the places to those you read about - your trip will bring them alive.

Suggest you get a real paper map of Middle East to lay out on kitchen table to see where what is located.

Not for 5-6/years, gives you more than enough time to plan anything as who knows what'll happen tomorrow anywhere? Chill!

I can't imagine where you got the idea you must go through Syria to get to Petra. Israel and Jordan border each other and going via Syria would take many times longer than going straight from Israel to Jordan.

Israel/Jordan were always a dream for me but I was nervous about it just as you are. One day I decided just to book the trip and go and it was awesome. I felt safe the entire time I was there and I had no problems at all. So book your trip and just go, you will love it.

PS Why wait 5-6 years? Nobody knows what the future holds, not just for the Middle East but for your circumstances. If this is your dream then go NOW.

Jordan is likely to be affected, looking at the situation right now. So is most parts of north ISrael and JErusalem. So just book, but be prepared to cancel, if things get worse,what else can you do?
I delayed Syria thinking tings would get better,and now? It would have been great to go there about 3 years back when things weren't so bad.

Talking about Egypt,

planning to visit Egypt in your upcoming tour will not be a problem because more than an European country has lifted their travel sanctions to Egypt like : Spain, Italy & Denmark, so Egypt is safe to visit if you are planning to go to pyramids of Giza or valley of the kings in Luxor.

ahmedmohamed--he is talking about a trip in 5-6 years!!!! No one knows what it will be like in ANY of the mentioned countries. Safe today--dangerous tomorrow, dangerous today--safe tomorrow. G-d willing all places in the middle east ( and I know Egypt is technically Africa) will be safe way before 5-6 years.
