Egypt Budget Info
My husband is a detail oriented person and we are trying to come up with a comprehensive price for our Egyptian trip. I have not seen any specific prices for average costs of meals (on our own) and would like some insight from experienced travelers to Egypt. About half of our meals will be included in tour cost, and yes, I understand that eating in 5* hotels will be more expensive than eating in local restaurants, but what is an appropriate amount to budget for each of those circumstances? We are a group of 4, some more adventuresome than others in the culinary line, so will probably be eating at both local and "American" style places.
Any advice will be appreciated.
We have our itinerary pretty well set; just wrapping up the details.
Also considering a stop-over in London or Paris on the way to break up the long trip - has anyone done that?
Thanks again!

Having just returned from Egypt last week, I can tell you that the dollar is really strong right now. You get 5.85 Egyptian pounds to the US dollar. I te the Hard Rock Cafe in Cairo a few times and a $15-20 dollar meal in the US cost $6-8 US dollars over there. Enjoy!

We loved Egypt Highlights. Our trip posting is on their web site. Nov 2004. Walaa was great.
We were in Cairo at the end of our trip, so we enjoyed having some basic food. We had Pizza Hut delivered (medium) and a coke including tip for $5 US.
