Does Plettenberg Bay have an airport or is George the nearest airport???
I'm just tossing around possible itineraries and one scenario has me finishing up my non-safari portion with Tsala Treetop Lodge near Plettenberg Bay.
Is the nearest airport to Plettenberg Bay in George, Port Elizabeth, in Plettenberg Bay itself or elsewhere???
It does not fit my schedule to reverse course all the way to Cape Town or even to continue onward to Port Elizabeth. If George is the answer, how far is it from Plettenberg Bay to George?
Thanks.

There is a Plett airport, but SA Airlink stopped scheduled service to it earlier this year. The nearest airport with regular service is George, just over an hour's drive away. I was speaking with a Plett resident last week who said that there are talks to re-start service directly again. I think it has to do with profitability - there is not enough demand on this route throughout the year, however, there is demand for it in December/January when Plett is packed with holiday makers.

Roccco,
Just to affirm that Traci is as per usual right on the button. If you stay at Tsala your best bet for air travel would be to use the George airport and you can bank on a one hour drive to get their timeously.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. That's not so bad, a one hour drive.
Now, would it be too taxing to drive from Hermanus to Tsala (right before Plettenberg Bay) in the same day? I really do not see anywhere in the caliber that I would like for this trip between Hermanus and Tsala. I don't mind if it is a five hour drive, but if it is a seven hour drive, that is too much.

Hi - a Plett local here Just note that there are road works between Knysna and George that cause about a 30 min delay...to be taken into account when flying out of George. Another local tip - beware of speed cameras in this area!
Otherwise - have fun - it is really beautiful.

Hello
The drive from Hermanus to Plet is possible in one day, it's about five hours, but the landscape is not the most interesting, just endless roads.
However, if you fly, you'll still have to get into Cape Town airport, then fly to George, then drive to Plettenburg.
In terms of hours, you'd probably find not a lot of difference - it's more a question of letting others take the strain of travel or you doing the driving.
Once you are in Plettenburg Bay, it's great!
Have a great trip!
