Dining in Cape Town

We are going to Cape Town at the end of April and have tons of recommendations for dining. We have currently booked both Foxcroft and The Pot Luck Club since their more famous sister restaurents are both booked.

Any opinions of one versus the other? Not sure we want to do BOTH. We also have been told Codfather is a do not miss. Thoughts?

We really LOVED Pot Luck Club!! Highly recommend it. Don't know the other. We did lunch and it was excellent.

Le Colombe. Take a taxi. Much worth the cost of taxi.

We did both when we were there in November. I preferred Pot Luck Club but both were very good. Foxcroft was very noisy though - it had only been open a few weeks - so they might have done something to fix the noise issue - see what people are saying on TripAdvisor. Pot Luck Club had a lovely buzz to it. Check out eatout.co.za

Don't give up on the Test Kitchen though. I didn't get a booking when they opened on the first of the month but kept checking twice a day and eventually got a table for 4 on a Saturday night - definitely the best restaurant right now in Africa. Let me know if you wanted more info

Codfather is good, and fun, but out of the city a bit.

Are you going to be in Johannesburg at all? Because Luke Dale Roberts of Test Kitchen and Pot Luck fame, has a restaurant there, too.

Ask your hotel to help you with getting a booking at The Test Kitchen; I liked PotLuck but loved TK. My travel agent in CapeTown (Liesl at Southern Destinations) handled all the restaurants bookings for me and we were able to get into Test Kitchen twice in one week--we liked it so much we decided to repeat and she got us the second dinner booking just a couple of days in advance.

Again, Le Colombe should not be missed. It is quite casual despite its exalted reputation.

I have reports on all these places in my trip report; I will bring it to the top for you if I can find it!!

Codfather is in Camps Bay which is a gorgeous area. It is worth a trip out there. We've not eaten at Codfather but have a few times at Blues Restaurant, Camps Bay, which has a beautiful view from it's first floor location and great food. Not Test Kitchen or La Colombe level of cuisine, but good nonetheless.

Liked La Mouette in Sea Point and Kloof Street restaurant in central Cape Town.
