New documentary of the "Nature" series which aired last night, (4/30).
Featured Jonathan Scott as one of the experts on the issues of the decline of lions in Africa and the few remaining in Asia.
Very well done documentary which talked about programs for the lion's survival and what is being or should be done. Also talked in depth about what part hunting may or may not play in their future survival.
A must see for all big cat lovers.
Did anyone else see "Vanishing Lions" on PBS?

Yes, I caught that last night. Great show.
I've got it taped!
I tivo'd it, will watch tonight.
Fabulous show - very well done. I was horrified to learn how decimated the lion population in Africa is becoming!
Didnt watch it. What location was it filmed in?
Hari
Missed it
Filmed primarily in Kenya, I believe - Masai Mara and Laikipia.
Most PBS stations will rebroadcast. Go to the following link (those of us in the U.S) and find the rebroadcast time in your area:

PBS ran another good Nature a few weeks back "Tall Blondes" on giraffes. Great footage from Giraffe Manor.
Caught it tonight, very educational. I had no idea this was going on. Hope they keep airing it so more people can become aware.
I thought it was a wonderful presentation. I found it interesting that they did not interview or gather information from Craig Packer, who has a wealth of information on lion research.
Andy
I think Craig Packer's rather controversial support of Lion Hunting in Botswana may stand against him in such discussions. Furthermore a lot of his findings were completely refuted by Deryck Joubert's experience in Botswana, particularly with the Duba Boys. Packer's research would suggest that they could have bneen shot 4 or 5 years ago without problems being created. I'm sure there are others on the board with more information on this subject and if I have some of it incorrect I apologize in advance.
